Removing Hair and Clipping Nails when Intending Qurbani
Question: Can one who intends to make Qurbani , clip nails and remove unwanted hair during the first ten days of Zul Hijjah?
Answer: It is Mustahab (desirable) for the one who will be making Qurbani to avoid cutting hair or nails, from the 1st of Zul Hijjah - until after the Qurbani animal has been slaughtered.
Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wasallam said:“When the ten days (of Dhul Hijjah) begin and a person has an animal for sacrifice which he intends to slaughter, then let him not cut his hair or trim his nails.” (Muslim)
The Hilaal for Zul Hijjah 1436 will be observed on Monday, 14th September 2015 in South Africa. If you intend to practise on the above Sunnah, then you should clip your nails and remove unwanted hair before Magrib on Monday the 14th of September 2015.

Defects in the Qurbani Animal
Question: What defects disqualify animals from being slaughtered from Qurbani?
Answer: Animals chosen for Qurbani should be healthy, free from faults and defects. Here below is a general list of SOME of the defects:
- An animal blind in one or both eyes.
- An animal without ears from birth or one third or more of the ear is missing.
- An animal with one third or more of the tail missing.
- A lame animal which walks with only three legs, the fourth being totally useless.
- An animal without teeth or which has lost most of its teeth.
- An Animal whose horn has been broken off from the root. However, an animal born without horns or if the horn is broken off -not from the root - it will be suitable for Qurbani.

Qurbani A Day Earlier in Another Country
Question: If a man is sending money for his Qurbani to India; if Eidul Adha falls on a Thursday in South Africa and in India, it takes place the day before (Wednesday) - will Qurbani be valid?
Answer: Yes it will be valid. The place where the animal is slaughtered will be considered.

Types of Animals Allowed for Qurbani
Question: What types of animals can be slaughtered for Qurbani?
Answer: It is permissible to slaughter goats, sheep, cows, bulls, buffalos or camels, male or female for Qurbani. The minimum ages are as follows:
(a) Goats or sheep should be one year or more (P.S A sheep that is about 6 months, but so fat and healthy that it resembles a normal one year old sheep, is also allowed.)
(b) Cows, bulls or buffalos should be two years or more,
(c) Camels should be five years or more.
Animals that are younger than the prescribed age are not suitable for Qurbani.
