Question:  What is the Islamic status of using Surma (antimony)?

Answer:  It is Sunnah to use the Surma at night before one goes to bed.  The Messenger Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam said: ‘Use Ismid (antimony) as it grows the eyelashes and improves the sight.’ (Bukhari)

Furthermore,  Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam  used to apply Surma into each eye three times.
