Question: What are the minimum and maximum amounts of Mahr?
Answer: Mahr (Dowry) is the money that the husband gives to his wife at the time of contracting the marriage. The minimum amount is 10 Dirhams which equals to 30.618 grams of Silver. There is no maximum amount. However, it’s not good to stipulate a very high amount.
Mahr Fatimi is the amount Sayyiduna Ali RA gave to Sayyidah Fatima RA. Mahr Fatimi is 480 Dirhams which equals 1530.90 grams of Silver.
As of the 27 of October 2017, the Mahr Fatimi is R12 415.60 and the minimum mahr is R248.31
