Question: How does one compensate for breaking a fast in Ramadan?
Answer: If a person, intentionally, breaks a fast during Ramadan - with no valid reason - then he has to compensate with Kaffarah (expiation) i.e. to fast for sixty consecutive days. In addition to the Kaffarah, the person should also observe a Qadha Fast (make-up) for the day on which the fast was broken.
