Question: What is Awwabeen Salaah and how many Rakaats should be performed?

Answer: Awwabeen Salaah is performed after Magrib Salaah. Between six and twenty Rakaats may be performed, in units of two or four. 

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said:

مَنْ صَلَّى بَعْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ لَمْ يَتَكَلَّمْ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُنَّ بِسُوءٍ عُدِلْنَ لَهُ بِعِبَادَةِ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً ) سَنَن الترمذي  ج١ص٩٨

" Whoever performs six Rakaats(units) of Salaah after the Magrib Salaah, without interrupting it with any evil talk, will receive the reward of twelve years of worship." {Tirmizi V1:P98}
